Spring Robin?

"When I lived in the frozen tundra of rural Massachusetts, the first sighting of a Robin was something to get excited about, a sign of warmer weather. Of course if you could be the first to report a Robin in the Spring, you would be considered the bearer of good news and adored by all, at least for a minute (unless you liked winter & all that goes with it). Yesterday morning (2/27/10) I looked out back only to see close to 100 Robins foraging on the golf course. They must be in a holding pattern due to El Nino."

High Tide

"If you were out this morning (9/20/09) you may have noted an exceptionally high tide. Just another reminder that we live on a planet! This was taken at the south end of the bike trail, near Delegal, about 30 minutes past the high water peak."

Delegal Marina Update - June 17

Delegal Creek

In Need of Repair

"Delegal Creek Marina was closed this afternoon. It seems that the engineering firm that has been keeping an eye on the movement of the structures at the marina has declared it unsafe. I'm sure more details will follow." "These photos were taken around 5:30 this evening (6/5/09) just as the crew was leaving after erecting this blockade. There is another gate about halfway down on the right side, still allowing access to the floating docks used by the boat owners." Click here for more details about the restricted marina access.

Oscar Owl

"This is Oscar, a Barred Owl. Oscar had the misfortune to fly headlong into an automobile one night. What is fortunate is that we have two caring residents, Pat Wolters and Robin Gold, both registered animal rehabilitators, who have volunteered their time to nurse injured animals back to health. A service they provide on their own and could use some extra support from time to time (hint, hint). Oscar was released last July on the Nature Trail, a little unsure of himself at first and a little shocked to be back in the real world, Oscar eventually flew off into the woods, but, not before posing for me. I guess that makes me the fortunate one, Thanks Pat & Robin!!!"

Delegal Creek Marina

"One of my favorite places to photograph is Delegal Creek Marina. The time of day, weather conditions and the angle chosen can create a variety of scenes. Using my wide angle lens and a tripod, I took 3 exposures to combine and create this High Dynamic Range Image."

SCI Raptor/Reptile Show

Photo was taken at the SCI Raptor/Reptile Show on May 16, 2009. "One of the many engaging moments happened during the introduction of a large snake, Boa, I think. Five innocent children were duped into holding their hands out and eyes closed while this huge snake was lowered unto their outstretched arms. The pictures tell the story. It reminded me of the story of the blind monks who all touched an elephant, each touching different parts with equally different experiences. As I looked through this series of photos couldn't help but notice the little guy, he kept his arms up the whole time, sometimes in contact with the big snake, sometimes not, cute, I thought, determined and fearless for sure."

Did You Know?

Groups on ST

Did you know you can create a group on topics of interest to Islanders? Groups can be public where any member can join. Or they can be private where only approved group members can join a group and see the communications that occur within the group.

Private groups are great to use when information exchanged in the group is not intended for public view.

Utilizing groups on Skidaway Today makes communications with an interest group much easier than traditional e-mail. The can also be a great recruiting tool to attract new members to an existing organization on the island.

Check out Video Help for more info on creating groups.

Please let us know if you have any questions on setting up new groups.
